While the PRAXIS for school psychology (Exam 5402) may seem daunting, it can be very easy and straightforward to pass for many! Keep reading to learn some tips and resources to pass your first time.

What Is the PRAXIS Exam?

The Praxis test in general is a series of certification exams written and administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) to measure the knowledge and skills you need to prepare for the school setting. Various Praxis tests are usually required before, during, and after teacher or specialist training courses in the United States. For school psychologists, taking this exam is a requirement to graduate their masters and doctoral program. For school psychologists, the exam will cover the specific required areas learned in grad school, including consultation and collaboration, law and ethics, assessment, behavior, and counseling.

While each state may determine their own passing scores for each Praxis exam, the school psychology exam has the same passing score across the states that require the exam. In order to pass the test, candidates must earn a score of at least 147. That's the magic number to graduate your program and get your state credential!
